Description
Large white-metal medal pierced for suspension. Issued in 1849 to commemorate the first Royal Visit to Ireland by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in August 1849. Obverse has facing busts of the royal couple inscribed "Victoria Queen of Great Britain" & "His Royal Highness Prince Albert" with an angel at top holding a banner inscribed "Cead Mile Failte" and an Irish wolfhound and harp at bottom. With the engraver's name "Parkes. F.". Reverse has a wreath of shamrocks, roses and thistles with inscription "To commemorate the first visit of her most gracious Majesty Queen Victoria and her Royal Consort Prince Albert to Ireland August. 1849". With the engraver's name "Parkes Dublin" at bottom. Fearon 300.7. Diameter 43 mm. Weight 26.90 grms .
