180,000 blind and partially sighted people find it hard to leave home alone. You can change that!
At Guide Dogs, we are currently looking for volunteers to help people who are blind and partially sighted, get out and about around Kirkby Stephen and the surrounding area. Our My Guide service trains and supports volunteers to act as sighted guides and allows them to make a real difference to the lives of local people. As a My Guide volunteer, you can:
• Make new friends
• Learn new skills to enhance your CV
• Give something back to the community
• Have fun
My Guide partners take part in social and leisure activities, such as walking, shopping, football and visiting local coffee shops. You can support your My Guide partner by increasing their fitness and confidence through regular outings.
To volunteer for My Guide, you need to be over 18 and willing to have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check. My Guide volunteers donate approximately 2 to 3 hours of their time each week, at a time that suits them.
