Baby and Toddler Music with Jackie
Description
The Pregnancy and Parents Centre Music classes are live and interactive with singing and guitar playing and most of all fun! They are very much a family affair, it doesn’t have to be Mum with baby, it can be Dad, Gran, Grandad, Sister, Auntie, or childminder joining in the sessions. Parents/carers are encouraged to sing along although talent is not required and you are very welcome just to listen to Jackie singing!
Age appropriate activities range from clapping, bouncing and tapping with young babies through to going on sound journeys through story telling with the 3 and 4 year olds. And in between there are percussion instruments to explore; stimulating multi sensory props and puppets, and balls, hoops and the parachute to have fun with in a musical context.
How will it benefit my baby/toddler?
The emphasis of all classes is on the child’s experience of music. For music to be understood it has to be felt so it is important that we create the feel of the beat for our children (particularly when they are young). Engaging with our children in this way will help to foster musical comprehension, coordination and expressive sensitivity.
How will it benefit me / my partner?
The Music sessions here at the PPC are very much a social and fun time. It is a great opportunity for parents not just to bond with their child but also to meet other parents, to make friends and share experiences. All of our sessions include time for parents to have a cup of tea and get to know one another.
What to expect
The timings include the refreshment time with tea and biscuits provided. Sessions are run on Mondays and Thursdays.
The classes are relaxed and friendly. Everyone sits on the floor with pillows for comfort. Each session begins with every child being welcomed with Jackie singing. Songsheets will be given out to help you learn the words so you can also sing the songs at home. Parents/carers are encouraged to interact with their child doing actions with them, helping them to play instruments etc. A range of different songs are sung. At the end of each class refreshments are made for you so you can chat to others in the group.
